Maramataka learning 13/8/20

WALT: understand and explain the concept about Maori time telling.

Here is some things I learnt. I learnt that the Gregorion calendar is based on how many days it takes the earth to travel around the sun. I also learnt that when the Europeans came  to New Zealand Maori translated the days of the week from the Gregorion calendar by what the words sounded like Mone[Monday]

Guess what...in the 1990s  the Maori changed it again to symbolize the meaning of the word - like Ratu[Tuesday] which means Ra[sun]Tu[Tumatauenga]

Learning about the maramataka is important because its ours.

I have an Iwonder. My I wonder is - why did the Maori start using the Gregorion calendar when they  should of kept using the Lunar calendar?

This is my mind map
what I enjoyed was creating my own mind map and I also enjoyed learning new things about Maori time telling.
